Birefringence in nanostructure

In this problem, we study a porous membrane with cylindrical pores. The diameter of pores is less than 50 nm. Since it’s much smaller than the wavelength of light, the medium is transparent, but the refractive index depends on the polarization and direction of light propagation. More information about the samples studied is in the article: Birefringence in anodic aluminum oxide: an optical method for measuring porosity.
